Because you are actually buying from different places/vendors in some cases and Amazon is not fulfilling your order from their warehouse.
In all cases, they do not charge your card until the item ships. That's not an abnormal practice; most of the places I use online take the order but do not charge me until the item leaves the shop. |

I only buy from Amazon, not third parties (I check). I know they don't charge my card until it ships, but....all these charges look really bad. |
| It is standard practice for many retailers to only charge when something is shipped. If you place a large order it is very likely that the items are not all in the same warehouse. |
