Use of the word “nah” all over DCUMAD

Someone among us has repeatedly responded to posts with the slang “nah” in place of - perhaps, “no?” It has appeared within several subforums.

”Nah” is like nails on a chalkboard. It is also a sign of a low or stunted intellect.

It’s just a colloquialism meant to be dismissive. No need to overthink.

It doesn't bother me. Same with "yeah".

What about the construction “Yeah, no.”

Nah, it's just a casual and, perhap, snarky way to say "no".

I’ll take “yeah, no” over “um, no”

Sounds very Southern to use “nah.”

And we all know what that implies.

My dh told me I do this. When I've caught myself saying "yeah, no" I think the "yeah" means "I hear you" and the "no" means "I disagree with what you said". Yeah, no cuts the language down and I can get straight to explaining my thoughts.

I use both, depending on how dumb OP's take is.

Do we need a new thread on “hon?”
