A new Read What You Own Challenge is on. I've read four in the past couple of weeks. I download the audio versions from Libby as well to keep "reading" the books while doing chores and exercise. I'm trying to downsize my bookshelves, so donate the books when I'm done.
Anyone else trying this? |
I love the idea! But I will probably be lured by kindle sales and Libby loans !
|
| I think it's honorable but I'm not doing it. Life is too short to slog away at a bad book. |
I have a few reading goals every new year, and one of them is to read a book I already own but haven't yet. I will continue to do that for one book a year - I like that! But I don't think I can commit to much more than that

I'm terrible at this. I pretty much only read the books I borrow from the library.
I buy books to support local businesses and to support people I know who write books. |
Why do own bad books? |
NP - Because you purchase thinking they are going to be good - then you get 10-15 to even 50 pages in and realize - nope, not going to spend time on that. And then, you don't get around to giving away for a while or putting in a Little Free Library or selling at used bookstore. |
Sounds like a good opportunity to move those books on to make space for ones you like. |
Thank you for answering the question directed at me - yes, this is pretty much it! |
|
I think working in education had me on such a strict budget when I was younger than I still can't buy a book at retail unless I'm totally sure I'm going to love it (library sales or McKays are a different story).
I also read 20-30 books per month and can't imagine what salary I'd need to afford buying that many books. |
I guess I don't own bad books. |
I think most people are like you, OP. This is why libraries exist! I am 100% on board with re-reading my entire Agatha Christie collection, because I love to do that anyway
|
That's a fairly asinine statement. If you are in fact a reader of any kind, you'll know very well that books are entirely subject to personal tastes and interests. |
This is a rather odd comment No harm to your ego intended.
|
likewise.
