Acne

DD has started getting a few small spots on her face. I had acne growing up and I’d love to have her skip any facial scarring. Is there anything you can do nowadays?

A few small spots is not acne.

Huh? It is.

They are pimples. Acne is a very involved skin disorder.

Our Derm had my12 year old start otc Laroche Posay adapalene. He has very sensitive skin, so he has to wash, apply light moisture, then the adapalene, and more light moisture and only 2x/week. It’s helped.

Thank you so much for the lesson. NIH and I have misunderstood this until now.

For just a few pimples, there are lots of products that will work. I used clean & clear and noxzema, stuff like that. Queen Helene's mud mask is good for overnight spot treatment and those little spot treatment dots (Amazon) are good for daytime.

My daughter had acne serious enough to require a year of Accutane treatment and doesn't have scarring. But it's helpful to discourage picking or squeezing.

I would start with over the counter stuff and if that doesn't work see a dermatologist.

My daughter started with a few pimples and then kind of got worse. She just completed Accutane and her skin looks fantastic.

I liked that the dermatologist took her skin issues very seriously. I did not have great skin as a teen and no one helped me.

Can anyone recommend a good dermatologist for teens in the Fairfax/Reston/Chantilly area? Thanks.

How was your husband’s skin as a teen? Acne is mostly genetic.

I would just start with OTC stuff if it is just a few pimples, and encouraging washing face twice daily.

I would recommend Cerave SA cleaner and moisturizer and the original Stridex pads once daily. Maybe start with them every other day or couple times a week to make sure they aren’t too drying.

My 9 year old DD has started getting pimples, but regular face washing and moisturizer has helped a lot. Start simple.

I think you should investigate the food that she is eating. a lot of skin-related issues care caused by a neglectful mother giving their kids garbage.

What about neglectful fathers? or teens getting their own food?

Wow. I'll take a few pimples over your ugliness every day.
