I can’t believe we killed the travel agent industry but kept realtors.

Now mind you I’m not even one of those “realtors are useless and the industry is a scam” people. I like having a realtor hold my hand through a purchase. But JFC I can’t believe we killed off the travel planner first! A halfway decent agent taking over the selection of flights, hotels, and car rentals would add much more to my QOL than any of the middle men still standing.

There are plenty of travel agents out there if you wish to use one. most of us prefer to make our own arrangements.

Because planning travel is not a life changing, monumental undertaking. It's a luxury. Food, water, shelter...and all that.

I think realtors are a good idea but wow are they overcompensated. They should be paid a flat fee. Do they really do more work selling a 1.5M house over a 750k?

Real estate agent has always been a much more lucrative business. Travel agents essentially quit making travel arrangements for the masses because it did not make sense for them money-wise. There are still travel agents if you need one.

I would imagine it takes a lot longer to sell a more expensive house than an affordable one.

Not always. The 750k house might be priced low because it's a disaster with deferred maintenance. A sparking, updated 1.5m house will sell in a weekend.

I'm a travel advisor and I turn away business all the time because I'm fully committed. But my clients are exactly like you. Just don't have the time or mental bandwidth to research.

Sure but we have interior decorators, dog walkers, grocery and meal deliverers, clothes shoppers, and people to help us declutter our homes. Some luxury service sectors are growing.

Travel agents are still out there and thirsty AF, plenty of suckers still using them, and plenty of companies still giving kickbacks as "incentives" for them to stay in business. No need for them IMO, but real estate involves contracts, and I think it's important to have someone knowledgeable on contracts review them. I dont think we really need any agents to walk you through a house or tell you how many bedrooms there are though. And my husband is a former realtor lol.

You are assuming it's in a major city with a booming market. Higher priced houses absolutely sit longer, as the buyer pool is smaller. Usually there are better photos, staging, marketing & advertising involved.
