How much is your potential safety worth?

There's an item on Facebook Marketplace I'd like to buy, but I'm a bit weirded out by the fact he's charging an extra 10% to meet up instead of the buyer picking it up at his house. Odds are he's just lazy (I get it!), but since I've never see this before, I'm cautious. What would you think?

I’ve sold a lot of things on Facebook marketplace and can’t imagine taking the things anywhere. It is all pick up. 10 percent more seems like a good compromise if that doesn’t work for you (though honestly I would just pass if i were the seller).

As a frequent seller on Craig’s List and FB there is no way I would ever do a meetup. If you want it, you will come to my house to get it. If you won’t do that, someone else will. Has nothing to do with laziness. I don’t have time to track you down around town.

Actually, standard is a public meetup and has always been. Do you get off on luring women to your house?

We have done meet ups for big ticket items (PlayStation). We met up at a police station. No extra charge.

What price range are we talking about?

It's a 9% discount for direct pickup. Your choice.

Right, plus half the people who agree to purchase something are late or no-shows. So then you're stuck having schlepped whatever item across town.

I'm a woman. I am never taking an item I am selling anywhere for a "meetup." Glad to bring it outside the house for the purchaser, have helped move items into cars/trucks while doing this, etc. I live on a busy street corner--about 14,000 cars a day pass by here, according to the DOT--so you're as safe at my driveway as you would be in a parking lot. Take it or leave it.

Spouse found 2 car seats on Craigslist. Meet up only.

Brand new, brittax car seats in unopened boxes. Top of the line. Less than 1/2 the sale price. Brand new.

I naively drove out to what turned out to be a super-sketchy (ie: HIGH CRIME) near Oxen Hill.

Seller’s story made ZERO sense; ie - we now realize these were stolen goods.

But as I went to pay him, he said “yo! yo! - put that cash away!! We’ll get jacked up!!”

He meant, we were about to be robbed at gunpoint if anyone saw the cash; he even claimed some car in the parking lot “was about to roll up on us.”

I am not as naive as I was back then. In general, I no longer meet up with sellers / buys from CL or marketplace. Too many scammers and crazy people.

You realize men sell things on Facebook, right? And refuse to bring the item out?
