Conception for dummies.

Ok, I'm new to this and what may seem obvious to some is not to me - simply my own ignorance about this topic I guess. I'm hoping that someone will educate me here. Is it possible to test positive for a pregnancy test before implantation occurs? So for instance, if you know that you are ovulating and try every day during that week - can you take a test right away? I've heard it takes up to 10 days for implantation to occur so does that mean the soonest I can test is 10 days after the date I might've conceived?? Sorry for being so in the dark on all of this. TIA!

Well I think you will find some people on this board less than helpful as I did when I started since there should be two boards TTC and infertility. Anyway you need to wait at the least 10 days after you believe you ovulated to get a positive test result. The tests check for HCG which doesn't start occurring in your system until after implantation.

No - the earliest that your body will even know that there is implantation is about 10 days after ovulation (so day 24 if you ovulate on day 14), and even then a pregnancy test probably won't be able to detect anything.

The previous posters are correct. Before the fertilized egg implants in your uterus and thereby forms a connection to your body and bloodstream, there is NO WAY that your body KNOWS you are pregnant.

There are no symptoms, no changes in blood chemistry, no pregnancy until that fertilized egg implants. People who tell you they "knew" right after they had sex or the next day or whatever, are either misremembering or were actually already pregnant when the "magical" sex occurred.

Implantation should occur in days 8-10 after ovulation. It will take a day or two after implantation for there to be enough HCG in your blood to show up on the HPT. So wait at least 10 days. 12 is probably better. By 14 you should certainly have a positive HPT if you are pregnant.

You may feel symptoms before you get a positive test. I was exhausted and fuzzy headed and my breasts were sensitive to every movement. I've only had those exact symptoms twice in my life, the two times I was pregnant. But, the first time, I thought maybe I was just a little hungover.

Hi there - I highly recommend the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Wechsler (I think that's the correct name and spelling). It really is Conception for Dummies - and lays out everything you need to know. It's really informative and fascinating actually. Good luck!
