I thought Lanier was great when she was at 4D, and I think she's great now. But if I can split a hair, I still think that Fenty was wrong to replace Chief Ramsey. Ramsey was doing a good job, at least as I recall, and although I have no quarrel with the result, I think it was a risky move whose major motivation was getting someone in the job who had closer ties to Fenty.

Fortunately, unlike Rhee, Lanier has more loyalty to the City than to Fenty, and is not threatening to leave if Gray is elected.

Amen. Lanier is not the cut and run type, nor can I think of any reason she wouldn't stay with Gray. It's not just her. The leadership and accountability I've seen in our East of the Creek police force last 2 years has sold me for good on Lanier. Her WaPo magazine profile a while back helped sell me on her, despite her boss.
