Locking Story Song Thread

Anonymous
I just noticed you locked a thread where someone had asked for story songs or songs that provide “fabulous visuals”, referring them to a thread for songs that “you think tells a beautiful story”. While I can see how the threads are related, I think the suggested link is much narrower than OP’s request for 2 reasons.

First, a lot of story songs are not beautiful. They may be hilariously funny, heartbreakingly sad, filled with violence, etc. For example, posting songs about war, murder, or a squirrel causing havoc in a church would seem inappropriate and disrespectful for a beautiful storysong thread, and I wouldn’t have felt I could post about them on the new thread, but I posted them on OP’s thread because they’re great songs that I thought would be appropriate for that thread.

Secondly, OP also asked for songs that provide visuals. One of the songs list in the original post as an example was Moonlight in Vermont which doesn’t tell a story at all, but rather paints a vivid picture of a landscape. Again, posting songs like this wouldn’t be appropriate on a thread asking for songs that tell a story. This leaves posters with the choice of ignoring the request of the OP asking for songs that tell a beautiful story by posting songs that don’t tell a story at all, or ignoring the request of the OP from the locked thread for songs that make you visualize, but aren’t necessarily story songs.

I already posted my suggestions before you locked the thread, so it doesn’t really affect me (other than I was really enjoying exploring the songs others posted, because I love this musical genre). Most of mine I wouldn’t have posted on the suggested thread, and I might not have posted at all because of the narrower definition. For the sake of not limiting the responses to the newer OP wanting “visual” songs, please reconsider your decision to lock the thread.

This "name a song" threads seem to pop up all the time and there is very little difference in them. There is current another "name a song" thread that is active. We really don't need a separate thread that is nothing but a list of songs with mostly duplicates.

Okay. Thanks for your consideration and response.
