How much did you pay last year? What is the difference in comparison to what you paid 10 years ago?

You do realize you can type in any address on a county's real estate taxes website and see the tax history going back 10 years or more.

For example: https://apps.montgomerycountymd.gov/realpropertytax/

Have fun!

We bought our house 8 years ago. According to the city the value has gone up 20% in that time. Our tax bill has gone up 50%. Ouch.

We weren't living here ten years ago, but our property tax bill (MoCo) has gone up 30% in that time.

Good Lord. I hope you are pondering a move in the near term.

Is it accurate though?

Yes, that's 100% accurate. It shows the actual bills everyone gets in the mail. Whatever people post on here won't be accurate because most people have poor memories of things that happened 10 years ago.

$400 increase from last year. We purchased 3 years ago. Not DMV.

What is the point of this exercise

fairfax county doesn't have the bills for every year on the website (or at least I can't find them), but they have the property assessments. My assessment has gone up 44% in 10 years, and I suppose my taxes have, too?

I am very fortunate that our PITI is still very low relative to our income, so I don't really think about it.

Taxes are double. But my house has definitely not doubled in value. Not even close. I live in south Arlington so my 800K home 10 years ago now is worth maybe 950k.
