DCPS student email addresses

Do DCPS students get an email address and account to communicate with teachers and other students?
Anonymous
Not really. They are able to communicate with teachers via email using Canvas. Some kids with their own external email accounts (like Gmail) can also email their teachers just like a parent would. My kids didn't really access Canvas and use this way to communicate with their teachers until middle school.

They do. They have access to the whole office suite, including outlook

The address is their student ID number @students.k12.dc.us.

You can use it to log into Office 365. It's also generally their login for apps that are sponsored through DCPS. This is rarely explained to kids or adults, for some reason, and you have to be kind of resourceful to figure it out if you don't get some handholding from the school.

The email address is only turned on for high schoolers. Prior to that they have access to everything but outlook.

Thank you, I was able to get my Son's DCPS email address. He's in Kindergarten, and we were not given a password (outside of the Clever QR code to login). When I attempt to login to MS365 I'm prompted for a password. Any idea on what this would be? I'm afraid to change it in clever, as it might break the QR codes they use at school.

On a second note, if we can't get or receive emails how do you take advantage of all the edu student programs prior to highschool (Disney+, Apple, Google, etc.)

Thanks!

Nope, email isn’t turned on for their Office365 account until they are in high school.
