| A dream job has popped up on LinkedIn. Apparently not only my dream job though, bc it already has close to 1k applicants. Boo. I have to re-do the resume (almost done) and apply. I don't want to apply bc I don't want that sad feeling when I don't get it - you know? Anyway, I was wondering if you could please share stories of landing your dream role against tough odds. Thank you! |

Even if you don’t get it, you haven’t lost anything - you don’t have it now and won’t have it then. Same same.
But I recruit and I can guarantee that most of those applications are junk - people with a paralegal degree apply for JD-only positions; ad says 8-10 years experience is required and they have 0. Don’t let that number stress you out bc it’s meaningless. |
| I would not think too hard about it. just apply. you miss 100% of the shots you dont take. |

If it's your dream job, then you probably have a good background for it compared to other applicants.
You've already done the most time consuming part, which is updating your resume, so might as well complete it to the end. |
This is very true! I recently hired someone and 90 percent of applicants weren’t minimally qualified for the role. As in, the job was for an editor and we were getting applications from people who’d only ever worked retail jobs. |
They likely will use AI to filter through the resumes and applications so make sure you have key words from the job posting in your submission. |
| Mine your network, and your network's network, for connections. AI can make mistakes. So much easier if you have a personal connection. |
| You should definitely apply but if you don’t know someone at the organization I would also focus on sending cold emails/linked in messages to people there for informational interviews. If you have a connection there who could recommend you, that will be immensely helpful. If they have your dream job now, they will probably have something else that you like in the future. |
| I once posted a government job and got almost 200 resumes, 5 resumes had all of the qualifications listed in the posting. Don’t be deterred by the number of applicants, just do your best to make sure your qualifications come through. Good luck! |
| just apply. I would not be planning out my first day outfit but I would definitely apply (and quickly because they might take down the posting with that many applicants). |
