I became a US Citizen today!

It feels odd to post this on my personal facebook but I am SO happy and wanted to share somewhere.

Truly beyond words. I have been in this country for 15+ years in different stages and different visas (student visa, work visa, student visa, permanent resident, etc.). I have very close ties to my home country but the US has been home for awhile now -- it is where I met my husband and we had our two children.

Even though I was always here legally, the stress of visas and USCIS processing was constant. Finally, I can truly call the US home. As flawed as it may be, I love her and am so happy to be here.

Congrats!
I am filing this Sunday, too.
How long did you have to wait for the interview? Was it all straightforward or did the officer ask any unexpected questions or give you a hard time about anything in your biography?

Not OP but will be a new citizen hopefully soon, and though my state is super reliably one party, I can’t wait to vote in the local elections and on local issues.

OP here. Thanks everyone!

Yes, very excited to participate in the electoral process. I've been on the sidelines for awhile and look forward to being part of it.
