| Are DCPS schools required to let the class know if someone got lice? My son mentioned someone in his class got it but we didn't hear anything from the teacher so not sure what the protocol is. |
| Start preventive combing now. Licemeister comb on Amazon, us it to comb his hair with conditioner in the bath. |
| My understanding is four kids in a classroom triggers a notification, OSSE rule. |
DCPS considers lice protocols to be racist. In order to survive DCPS elementary school you will need to become an expert lice checker or be prepared to pay heavily for the Lice Lady. We don’t miss those years. Godspeed to you. |
| I’ve never gotten a notification, but have only heard about outbreaks from word of mouth. Not sure how they would know if it doesn’t have to be reported to the school. |
|
School does not need, not even sure they can, notify parents of lice in the classroom. If you have girls, keep their hair in ponytails. Tell kids (boys and girls) to not touch heads with other kids as much as possible. Check their hair regularly for nits to catch the problem before it becomes worse. Have lice comb on hand.
Thankfully this isn't much of a problem as kids get older (and aren't touching their heads as often). My head is itching now. Lice is not fun, but it's also not the end of the world and pretty easy, albeit time-consuming, to get rid of. |
... huh? black kids don't get lice |
They can. Our DCPS sent out notices both school wide and to specific classes where there were multiple cases. |
| What? Racist against who? Black kids don't get lice. |
| I'm just sick and tired of BASIS not taking its fair share of lice. Why hasn't the Mayor or PCSB taken action? THIS ISN'T EQUITABLE!!!! |
Huh? Scratching my head over that one. https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/can-african-americans-get-lice#risk |
Black kids most definitely get lice!
|
| Of course not. You are in the life years. Start combing regularly and avoid complaining as it makes you sound like an idiot. |
Black kids don't usually get lice. I taught K/1 for many years and never once did one of my black students have lice (that I knew of) Many white students did |
|
Our DCPS elementary is currently experiencing a lice outbreak. It’s everywhere in every grade. The principal sent an email to all parents to check kids, and the protocol to return is some sort of treatment.
Of course, it takes more than a slather of lice shampoo to actually get rid of lice. |
