Age Policy

My daughter's birthday is in the end of June and I was thinking of holding her back a year. She will turn 6 in June and then start kindergaden. Does anyone know the policy on this? Do schools allow it? Thank you in advance

This is permitted and is called an immaturity exception I think. You do need to file it the year your child is K-eligible.

Why do you want to delay her starting K?

I just feel that she is not as socially mature as other kids her age. Being the yongest in the class will not be best for her. I would prefer for her to be the oldest. Thank you for your response.

We decided to this as well for our child who has special needs and is very delayed. He will be five
in a few weeks. We already filed the paperwork with our local elementary school. You can find the Kindergarten
Waiver form online on the MCPS website.
