I have a friend visiting from NY and staying downtown. I want to take her out to a place that passes for ‘cool’ in DC. Unfortunately my go-tos all seem to be serving fixed menus now - the Dabney, Tail Up Goat, even Kinship. I dont want a long drawn out multi-course thing or something stuffy (Marcel’s, Fiola, any steakhouse) just a neat atmosphere and good food we can order a la carte.
Recs? Anywhere from Penn Quarter to West End/Georgetown, or up as far as DuPont, Adam’s Morgan, 14th St Corridor. Prob would avoid the Hill or H St Corridor. Thanks! |
| Rasika. If you like Indian. |
| Convivial, Centrolina. Maybe Amazonia? |
| Tosca is awesome but understated and not “cool” but they will take good care of you and the food is delicious |
| I don't know if it's "cool," but Supra is really good. https://supradc.com |
| Allegory is great for drinks/snacks. Maybe combine with Immigrant Food? |
| I would go for something from Michelin’s Bib Gourmand list. |

Have you tried Crane's DC? It has a Michelin star (or more) and is a very cool fusion of Japanese and Spanish food. I've been many times and thus far, they have not sold out during week days.
https://cranes-dc.com/ Excellent food. |
Immigrant Food is very heavy on the butter, oil and cheese so prep for a nap after. |
I like it and Indian but I"m over it. Everybody always wants to go and it's always crowded and I'm not sure it's cool. Either one. |
Not oP but thanks for this suggestion! |
Supra is amazing. Great food. Warm service. Plenty to talk about with Georgian knickknacks. |
7th st. in Penn Quarter has Jose Andreas properties. All good. You could do a crawl starting at Oyamel, then Joleo then Zitanya. Or work backwards. But Cranes is across the street (Roughly) from Zitanya and more unique. IMO (Forgive all my spelling) |

Izakaya -- the second floor upstairs at Daikaya. https://www.daikaya.com/
Really innovative and well executed Japanese with western touches. A cool room, too. |
