Swanson--how big are classes?

Anonymous
My child will be going to Swanson next year and I'm wondering how many kids are in each class. And, if you know, how does this stack up to the other APS middle schools? TIA

Class size is hit or miss-- can be in the teens, all the way up to the high 20s. It seems to be driven more by the luck of how schedules fall out after kids are slotted into their chosen electives (band, choir, languages, etc.).

My DC’s math and science classes are large but one is staffed with a special Ed teacher and another with a teachers aid.

^^ I meant to say there are 2 teacher staff for the larger class.

I heard it's so crowded kids don't get lockers and need to carry their coats and backpacks around all day, it's that right?

No. Kids must leave their backpacks in lockers and only carry what they need from class to class. But yes, halls are very crowded.

I thought nA middle schools were under capacity? Why are the halls overcrowded? Are the capacity numbers made up and don’t take into account common spaces like hallways?

Swanson is not under capacity.

8th grade almost no one uses their lockers according to my DC. DC has classes in the trailers on the first floor and in the 8th grade hallways in the second floor. No time to get to lockers between classes.
