| I recently left a job in a toxic environment for a new job and my mental health is 100x better than it was when I was there. The problem is, my former boss has given my replacement permission to text/email me questions about random aspects of the job like where documents are located, what we did in specific situations, etc. My blood pressure spikes every time I get a text and it mentally brings me back to that place. Am I obligated to respond to these messages? How do I put an end this situation? Thanks. |
| Hell no. Block the numbers. |
| OMG no. Your reaction should have been to email the boss and ask them not to share your contact info, then to block the replacement's number. Block it now! I'm glad you left. I don't love how people overuse the word toxic but wow. Your former job was definitely toxic! |
| "Sorry, I'm not able to recall. You'll want to check with Bob on stuff like that in the future." |
+1 Not your circus, not your monkeys. |
| they going to pay you for your time? |
That's even too much. |
| Did you tell them you’d answer questions? |
+2 Such BS, OP. BLOCK. |
| NOOOOOO. Blocky block and done. |
| Agree - giving out personal info is not appropriate. I’d let old boss know you are unavailable to help. |
I’d let him know I’m available as a contractor by the hour at 10x whatever your hourly rate was before. And require an upfront retainer. |
Do you feel comfortable telling new employee and boss to stop calling. Say you will not respond. |
|
Don’t answer.
Better yet, email your old boss, cc he and tell them to not give out your contact information to anyone. |
| You are starting a new job and your energy needs to be focused on that. Decline. |
