Capital Baller

Is it worth it from an interaction with coaches from schools you are interested in perspective? Money grab? Should 25s go if they haven't been recruited? What about 26s and 27s?

For 25s it is a money grab at that point with those schools. They aren't really looking to discover more recruits. Either their classes are full or they are sealing the deal with the last few. Worth it for the 26s. Too early for the 27s for looks - good if they just want to be coached by top-notch staff and get some reps.

What about if you are not a capital player? would assume they would be favoring the capital girls?

Why would you assume that?

Yes they favor capital girls. They put them on the same scrimmage teams and put the non-capital players together on a different team. It is designed to highlight capital players.

Lots of stories of recruits getting committed to good schools and programs in the spring of junior year - even fall of senior year. There are fewer available slots, yes. But if the kid is a star on a lesser-ranked club it could be worth it. Key is being honest with yourself about the player’s ability and whether she can play at a very high level.

Thanks for everyone who responded but I am more confused: some folks are saying not worth it for non-capital players but others are saying it could be worth it to get seen if play for lesser club.

Could anyone pls provide clarification? Thanks!

You’re looking for a scientific answer. It doesn’t exist.

By now you’ve seen her play hundreds of times. Do you think she can play at a high D1 level? You will be doing her (and you) a huge favor by being honest about this. If you can’t make that objective assessment, ask her club coach. If the answer is “yes,” and she’s a fast athletic player who shows well at camp, then it may be worth it. Even then, there are no guarantees.

If she goes, ask her club director to reach out to the coaches attending the camp to let her know she’ll be there.

Her coach does think she could play D1. i guess my question was whether she could get a fair look at this showcase given PPs indicated teams are stacked in favor of capital girls (yet others said there have been positive late recruiting outcomes).

Adding to that: the list of coaches is good and it is closer (and therefore cheaper) than some of the other showcase events she wants to attend, so that makes it desirable. She works out a lot at HB and saw it that way.

It is not desirable if she signs up and won’t get a fair look.

If your DD is a good player with D1 potential and you have the disposable income for it, she should attend.

Make sure she’s ready to perform. A good coach will notice her talent if she’s at the same level as the CLC girls.
