Need a rec for a Chicago eatery please

Visiting college kid, staying by the lake. I need a rec for a solid restaurant- he’s on level with Red Robin, so nothing too fancy, just good food in large quantities and nice ambience so we can catch up.

I agree Pizza and Oven Grinder is good.

Purple Pig has awesome vibes but it's mostly small plates.

Cafe Ba Ba Reeba is Spanish and so fun.

Au Cheval if you want burgers

When in Chicago the obvious choice is Pizza.
Lou Malnati's and Giordano's are the best.

Lou malnati’s is no good. If you must have deep dish, try Pequods or Burt’s.

Bavette’s. Your kid can get a burger or steak sandwich.

Giordano’s is great. Prefer it to Lou M.

Hey all thank you for the recommendations! We ended up going to Eataly, which was a fun and upbeat place and no hassle getting a table. Going to have to try a few of these recs while I’m in town!

That’s just where they went for their first meal. Relax, OP said they’d try some of these recommendations.
