I have a very cute but naughty small dog who digs on the furniture. All of our couch cushions (cloth not leather) are messed up from his digging. He does this while we aren’t home. Realistically, we aren’t going to train him to stop or crate him while we are gone. Is there any couch material that can deal with this? I wanted to get a Lovesac but DH says we have to wait for the dog to die. Haha |
Microfiber and velvet hold up really well to cat claws so I'd think they would work with small dog claws. |
One of our couches is from DWR and is upholstered in Maharam Mode fabric. Our dog is a digger too but it's a really tight knit so the dog and couch have happily coexisted for 5+ years. without any snags. |
Microfiber 100%
7 dogs in 25 years. |
Can you gate him in the laundry room? |
Very tightly woven fabric, no loops, and check the "double rubs" durability number in the fabric specs. You should look for 50,000 double rubs or above. It should be printed on the swatch tag. Most of the major retailers these days offer some choices that are at that degree of durability. |
OP here— thank you! |
We keep our couch covered. |
We have the Pottery Barn Pearce Sectional in some type of performance microfiber material. I want to say it's "everyday suede" but I could be wrong.
It's held up to three dogs for over ten years. Spots come up easily and while dog hair does cling to it, the vacuum picks it right up. We will be purchasing the exact same couch again when the time comes. |
Restrict him to certain parts of the house when you're away. |
He’s probably anxious because you’re away. Try boarding him elsewhere. |
