A pathetic excuse for a school email on the Israel conflict

What a pathetic failure of a huge school district to deal with a sensitive political issue. See below for a generic email used for many MCPS schools. “News of war or natural disaster”? Not violent murdering of innocent civilians? Not even using the word terrorism?

MCPS isn’t apolitical. It threw itself with open arms into the racial inequality issues. This is MCPS trying to support the issues it cares about and sees as “woke and worthy” and ignoring true senseless violence because it’s too complicated for them.

Dear Hoover Community:

News of war or natural disaster can elicit feelings of anxiety and uncertainty. As a school community, we strive to care for one another and provide support when needed. In difficult times, it is important that we demonstrate care and compassion in an environment where all voices are heard and respected.

It is important that we are available to provide support to our students as they cope with emotions and help make sense of what they are hearing and seeing. Our counseling department and administrative team will be available to speak with students. Please encourage your student to reach out to their trusted adult in the building. That adult could be any staff member in the building with whom they feel safe to share their thoughts.

In these challenging times, together, we are confident that Hoover Middle School can be a shining example of inclusivity and unity.
