I’ve been a guest with friends who have memberships at pools in Vienna and Arlington this past summer and I can totally see the appeal. I’m a frequent visitor of DC public pools and love them, but the community feel and amenities of private pools is pretty great. Where do DC residents have memberships? Does every pool outside of DC have a ridiculous waitlist? Do I need to just keep mooching off my friends? 😂 |
Where in DC do you live? We’re members at Banockburn and there are a few families who live in NW who are members. |
We're at West Hillandale and have quite a few DC members. Most of them are in Takoma and Shepherd Park, I think. |
Cleveland Park has a pool membership. There's also one for people who live near Hillwood. There are probably more. And there're always public pools and country clubs. |
We have friends that live on Capital Hill and are members of Forest Hollow Swim Club. It is right off 395 so not too bad at all.
If you are a military or GS family you can also join Fort Myer's Pool on the Army base. Very, very nice. They have three large pools and an actual pool side restaurant you can order food (fries, burgers, etc). They do movie float nights, great 4th of July stuff, etc. You just have to work for the government. https://jbmhh.armymwr.com/programs/patton-hall-pools |
OP here. I live in Petworth so this is great
Info. Thanks! And I’m a fed. I knew I could use the bowling alleys on base, but I had no idea about the swimming pool. This is amazing! |
Try West Hillandale or Adelphi, lots of Petworth families at both. |
Links? |
Us too, we’re in North Petworth and it can be a bit of a drive, but worth it. Tons of DC families |
They are tiny and limited to neighborhood residents. Cleveland Park Club Lenore Pool and Tennis Club |
Sounds wonderful! Do you know how long the waitlist is? |
BelAir, Adelphi, Cheverly |
There is Beauvoir Pool in DC: https://www.beauvoirschool.org/summer/beauvoir-pool/. A lot of Mt Pleasant families join. It is great for little kids as it has big shallow end. No BBQs or pool parties to my knowledge but you see lots of the same families on a routine basis and the Beauvoir Playground and field are a short walk up the hill and available weekends and camp concludes weekdays during the summer. It has lots of shady spots and a clean changing facility but does get crowded at peak hours. Not as crowded as most public pools where sometimes you can barely get a swim in or find a seat but crowded enough that it might be tough to read a book while your kid chills in the pool.
The Omni Shoreham in Woodley Park also used to have seasonal passes but is more of leisure pool with no lanes and parking is tough but they have alcohol and food service like some of the either Hotel pools in DC with memberships. |
Adelphi
PG Pool Cheverly West Hillandale |
You're never getting in to PG pool unless you put your name on the list 10+ year ago. Adelphi is undergoing large renovations and may have large fees (not sure) Either of the Hillandale pools would probably be your best bet |
