Have you made a Safe Sport complaint?

I don’t want to describe my specific situation, but I want to know about the process.

No, we just yanked our kid. We knew it wouldn’t make a difference and would move ridiculously slowly.

How did you know that?

Also, didn’t you feel an obligation to report for future kids? You can report and move your kid.

I haven’t but know people who have. Nothing happened. It a pretty ineffective organization.

Friend did for fraud, verbal player abuse. But it wasn't a sexual issue so they had no interest. Waste of time.

I would never take a credible allegation of sexual assault/conduct to an organization like that. I'd take it to the police.

Always report to law enforcement.

SafeSport is a check box for sports organizations to say they have some sort of safety measures in place and avoid having to deal with any issues because that is SafeSport’s job.

SafeSport says they govern all types of abuse, however anything other than sexual misconduct is put at the bottom of the list. They clearly need more man power to deal with all the issues. All forms of abuse should be investigated.

I’m waiting for someone to sue SafeSport for failure to do their job.

Too many people think not my kid, not my problem. If you are experiencing an abusive coach, chances are others are too. If everyone would report, action may be taken.

On the flip side, people are concerned with retaliation.

I've learned recently after escalating some long-term concerns to a sport governing council that - one can submit anonymous safe sport complaints. just note the case # and you can keep adding to it; and theoretically, a pattern of complaints, even those submitted anonymously, could possibly help a sport's governing body see a pattern of behavior that needs to be addressed. I have zero faith that safe sport complaints at this level will have any immediate impact to protect a minor who is experiencing bullying, abuse, etc. from a coach or SafeSport adult. But, a part of me wonders if every parent took the time to submit every incident, it might create some overwhelming situation that requires a complete overhaul/funding of the program. One can dream.

A friend of DD's tried Safesport but did not have faith they would do anything because of how they reacted - did not seem to care. They then reported it to a state governing board for the sport and were told they had no mechanism for taking complaints about coaches. This seems outrageous because they issue licenses don't they?

Why are we paying all these sports organizations fees when they can't even investigate abuse?
Anonymous
Coach we know was kicked out of tournaments for multiple ethical violations for faking paperwork for kids' ages, using subs that were not rostered. The governing body knows about this but they have not pulled his license and the guy continues to scam people today.

Any crew parent-- especially of females, knows that SafeSport is a complete joke. It protects groomers and abusers AND the parents who support the grommers and abusers!

Safe sport is a joke. Lots of creepy swim coaches.
