Hey all. Considering IOP at Sandstone Care at Rockville for 17 yo DD with depression, anxiety and history of ED.
Does anybody have experience with them? At any location? For IOP or Residential? Their IOP schedule is for 12 weeks, 4 days a week, 3 hours a day. They use CBT. Almost all of the time is spent in group therapy. One on one therapy is just once or twice a month. That sounds very odd. Was that your experience with IOP, here or anywhere? |
We did a 16-week IOP program and individual therapy was once a week. Once a week there was also a check-in with the psychiatrist. Family therapy every other week. |
I don’t know about this program but my kid did another one and is much worse as a result. |
A LCSW at the practice we go to did recommend the Rockville location. However we looked into it and we were surprised at how short the program is (8-12 weeks) and yes- a lot of it is group therapy. We ultimately decided against it and will keep our DC in regular CBT therapy, work on meds, and provide additional supports as best we can. |
Thank you all. Lack of individual therapy is a deal breaker. They did mentioned parents meeting every other week. |

We’ve been happy with Newport in Rockville. |
This is why we didn’t go with them. He wasn’t willing to go to group therapy and we didn’t see how all of it being only group therapy would be helpful. He ended up finding a psychiatrist he connected with for individual therapy. But it’s so expensive. Sandstone took our insurance and where he is now doesn’t. |
^I’m a NP if that wasn’t obvious. We looked at Encore and they offered us a similar program with group therapy. |
My kid went to Heartwood IoP last spring and I thought it was very helpful. |
Looking at Sandstone for IOP. Sounds like they do individual therapy weekly now. Has anyone completed the IOP? Any feedback? 12 kinds in group sounds a little big. |
Also interested in the IOP. We're in the residential right now but will be moving to IOP after that. |
Residential at Sandstone? Looking for residential care for my teen. |
