Q for MCPS employees- how long does onboarding take

Can anyone give me an idea of how long onboarding process for new hires takes? Or an idea of the order steps for hiring process?

I know it varies widely, but even just some basic info on the onboarding process would be helpful. Given the immediate need, I was expecting it to move faster than it has.

Took MONTHS for me. I had to call and follow-up every step of the way. Ask any BOE member, they've thrown tons of $$ at HR and it's still a red hot mess

Wow, was that your experience as a hire prior to the school year or during the school year?

I’d imagine there should be a push to get things moving fast during the school year since need is immediate & due to the fact that this is not a busy time of year as far as hiring & people onboarding goes.

Fingerprinting clearance is backed up, everybody you've asked to provide references for also need to follow up on their part.

Before COVID, it was around 60 days I believe. This was not due to an inept HR, but rather the length of time for backgrounds to come back...due to some new requirement at the time. I apologize for being vague, but I remember this specific number of days because my school was desperate to hire a specific teacher before they decided to take another position outside MCPS and it was taking forevvvveeeerrrr. Hang tight! But also feel free to bug HR.

Not true today. There are multiple places to do the fingerprinting - I got mine done the day they gave me the go-ahead, and that report comes back in less than week (I got a copy too). Sorry HR member, but MCPS HR is a joke, understaffed and incompetent

Just pray that a freeze isn’t coming. I was stuck in limbo (long-term subbing my future position) for a year.

I am not in HR but it’s also not the fingerprinting. But thanks for the snark. It can take up to 60 days for the Adam Walsh check to be completed.
