Science WFH

I’m looking for a WFH biology or neuroscience position. I have a MS and an EBD. I have both lab work and teaching experience.

I’m hoping to work from home to prevent ever being groped again at work. I happened in grad school, at NIH, and now at my current university. HR just shrugs it off every time. NIH HR was the worst.

What salary do you need? Would something like online teaching or MCAT tutoring work? Editing science journals?
Would you consider in-person work in a completely different setting, like a corporate office?

Two suggestions:

1) try private sector biotech/pharma. We do not play with regard to sexual harassment or inappropriate behaviors in the work place. They may have some WFH or travel positions. Still, anything lab or research based is primarily in office.

2) look into scientific writing/editing. They are few & far between, but I think that's your best bet for a WFH position

Would you work at a CRO? I am full time WFH for a CRO that went remote in 2020 and never looked back. I have an MS

Honestly I would look at the company and industry, not remote or non remote. The most respectful and professional work environment I have been in was fully in person and the most unprofessional one I have ever been a part of (by FAR) was a remote-first employer. Really depends on the tone your leadership sets.

Sorry about your experience, OP.

My DH has a science background and was always in labs. It wasn’t until he transitioned to programming that he could work from home.

I’m at GAO and we hire scientists as technical advisors. I don’t think we’re hiring right now, but you could consider setting up an alert with USAJobs. The specifics are being finalized but it’s been announced that there will be a work from home option for many analysts (ie those who aren’t doing things like classified work) going forward.

Grants officer for NSF? Usually they hire Ph.D.s but maybe you’d be able to qualify.

On a separate note, how much additional work would it be to defend? By the time I had finished writing my thesis the defense was trivial.

Private sector doesn’t put up with this as much as academia.

Also look into technical specialist positions at law firms to support patent attorneys. Law firms can be problematic, but less so than in academia.
