Are there ANY streets/ areas in Spring Valley that are safe (from chemical weapons)...???

Ugh the neighborhood is so beautiful - is the entire thing really toxic? Including map for reference, but it looks like much of the disposal areas are isolated to a few specific streets (see map link below). Does this mean that it may be safe on the other streets in the neighborhood (ex: streets closer to Mass)?

You know the answer, OP. Is there really anything anyone can say here to make you feel safe putting your children in that neighborhood?

I have several friends there who have had their soil extensively tested and believe it is safe.

I don’t live there. However, I would guess that with all the testing and remediation efforts, that this area is as safe as anywhere else in the DMV. Who knows what could be lurking in other neighborhoods? At least in Spring Valley they know. That’s my take.

Why risk it?

I know someone who tested the soil at the edge of the boundary. Arsenic was elevated but maybe within upper limit. The shock were the seriously toxic heavy metals that condemn entire sites like Thallium, Berrylium, and toxics like the PFOAS. The routine testing seems to be (deliberately?) too limited. They moved quietly.

No way. It's just how much do you care. Politically it's the greatest concentration of GOP in DC. They care a bit less about the environment.

What?!
It's in the Congressional record. What are you are real estate agent for SV? Be real.

Everyone can be the judge for themselves. But oh no for me. Why?

Wait ... AU Park is also not safe?

In January 2001, former Spring Valley residents
Thomas and Kathi Loughlin, outraged over the long-term
handling of the contamination, began an ongoing series of
legal complaints. Prior to and during the Loughlins’ ownership
of their home, construction and excavation teams unearthed
laboratory equipment containing chemicals, projectiles
containing mustard gas, and other hazardous items from land
near their property, and studies revealed high levels of arsenic.131
During their residence in the home, Ms. Loughlin was diagnosed
with a brain tumor, and the family’s live-in nanny was diagnosed
with actinic keratosis, which may indicate arsenic exposure and
increased risk of cancer.132 The Loughlins filed an unsuccessful
administrative claim with the Army in 2001, requesting over
$2 million in damages.133 One year later, the Loughlins filed a
claim in United States District Court against the Army, AU,
and the developers of their former homesite. The Loughlins
charged negligence, failure to warn, deceit and
misrepresentation, outrageous conduct, and fraud, for selling a
private home to them on an extremely toxic chemical and
munitions dump.134
