Transfer Tax Help

Anonymous
We are closing soon a new construction home in DC. Did not request that transfer taxes be split 50-50. Asked after contract signing and was told a firm no by the builder. Is there anything else we can do at this point to have them split it with us? TIA

Your realtor should have addressed this obviously when writing the contract. There is nothing you can do now after contract ratification.

Unless this is a case where they didn't use a Realtor. Because people always love to walk into new construction and don't realize how screwed they get by the builders if they don't have an agent who knows how this works, along with them from day 1.

But everyone always says in this forum that agents have no value!

OP did you hire a real estate attorney?

Why would you need a realtor for a legal contract?

You asked, they said no, you agreed to that, so why are you asking for it now?

Realtors don't care about you. They want their commission and out.

OP here. Thanks for the answers. I think I got my answer, or rather, I got confirmation that there’s no more recourse. So there is no need to say if I had a realtor or not, because all that would do is cause you to bash me or them.

If you did use a realtor you could go after them for the transfer tax via the Guaranty fund.
