How much do you pay to groom your large Doodle or standard Poodle?

Title says it all. If you could let me know where you live, that would help. Looking for info on grooming in MoCo and DC. If you decided to groom yourself, was it hard to do on a 65 pound dog? Thank you!

We groom our dog. Get a good clippers and a cheap smaller pair for detail, set of scissors and table.

100 in Alexandria, we use a mobile groom service, which is cheaper and more convenient than in old town. She’s 55 lbs.

I recently called around to get quotes and they ranged from $85 two, $175. Aside from the cost, availability was a big issue. Many places were booked.

$80 every 6 weeks for a 70lb doodle in a MD exurb. From what I can tell, that’s a unicorn price for hand-scissoring. We found a retired master groomer who only takes a few neighbor clients. When she stops taking clients, we’re looking at $120-$150 every 6 weeks.

We live in NW DC and have a 75lb doodle. It is $70 for bath, brush, blowdry, nails clipped and ear cleaning. It is $130 for full-fledged haircut. Once you find a groomer you like, schedule appointments for the next 6 to 12 months as groomers book up fast.

60lb Standard Poodle. $150 - NW, DC. It's too much; I will try somewhere else next time. I haven't had a problem with availability. I can get an appointment 1 week out.

I was paying about $100 for my 25 pound minature poodle when I got fed up and bought my own clippers. It was a fantastic decision. Doesn't taken too long and I've probably saved thousands.

I pay $120 for my 30 pound dog in Arlington. It was under $100 before COVID, but prices keep going up. But those ladies have been grooming her for over a decade and she’s too old and nervous to switch now, plus they are very good with her and very flexible with us. Really like the place, but will probably switch to mobile grooming (which seems to have comparable rates) with the next dog.

Can you share where this is?

In Bethesda we were paying a mobile groomer something like $160 + $40 tip. Dog was reluctant to get in the van, needed coaxing / carrying inside by the groomer. He deserved a bigger tip tbh.
