In another thread about running folks were recommending that people run on surfaces other than concrete… but where would one find these trails?
I am new to running and live in DC. Been running around my neighborhood area and also in RCP and the Aboretum, but it is all sidewalks and pavement. Definitely interested in other options if anyone has suggestions! TIA! |
C&O Canal towpath in Georgetown. |
I like the Capital crescent trail or the paved path through rock creek. The stones on the c&o canal eventually hurt my feet through my shoes. |
The Mall, between 3rd and 14th St; Kingman Island. |
Also, I run on pavement and have no problems. If you personally prefer nonpaved surfaces or find that they are easier on your body, definitely seek them out, but I wouldn't avoid pavement just because other people do. |
RCP has tons of trails. Where do you live? |
Definitely Rock Creek Park! And any hiking trail around here, Scott's Run and Donaldson Run are beautiful options. |
Alltrails.com or traillink.com |
This. For many people, uneven trail surfaces cause far more pain and injury than pavement. |
+1. Maybe I’m a klutz but I vastly prefer pavement / sidewalk running to trail running. |
Thanks for all the replies! OP here. I am in Petworth. Have never tried trail running in RCP before, have only stuck to the paved system, but may give it a shot this weekend. I have been afraid of turning an ankle!
Pavement has not been a problem for me so far. I was just wondering if there were wide/well-established trails people would recommend. I will check out the C&O towpath. I wonder if Roosevelt Island would also be a good spot? |
Roosevelt Island is great. It's not very long but you could do a couple/few laps for more miles. In D.C., the Melvin hazen trail, the Normanstone trail and the Glover archbold trail are good too. |
There is a weekly park run 5K on Roosevelt island I think. My friends did that this weekend on Saturday. |
The Glover Archbold trail is great for this. |
