Does anyone remember Julia Allison?

She was an internet fameball and aspiring NYC socialite/ TV talking head in the late 2000s, then had a reality show, dated a McCain (maybe not in that order) and then kind of went into the whole hippie/Burning Man lifestyle. She was also basically the inspiration for what is now GOMI - there was a snark site "reblogging" her that morphed into modern day GOMI.

Hadn't heard anything about her in ~10 years. Now she's 42, engaged to a Harvard professor and living in Cambridge. There's a NYT article but I don't have a gift link for it.

I'd love to get his ex-wife's take on this relationship. I can only imagine the daggers seeing this splashed across the NYTs.

Ooof.

Amazing comment:

California girl, my ass. She's from Indiana or someplace with Indiana energy. Def midwest, definitely suburb, but not Lake Forest or Grosse Point. More like Joliet or Livonia.

Yikes, I give that marriage a couple years tops. I wonder what his teenage kids think about it.

Probably cringing at this article and the idea of a new baby brother or sister.

Weird fact: Feldman, his ex-wife, and his ex-wife's new husband are all tenured professors at Harvard Law. That has to be awkward.

The divorce was in 2011. I hope they have a healthy co-parenting relationship and aren't shooting daggers at each other, that's such an old school way of pitting women against each other. He'd been divorced for 9 years when he met her.

My favorite:

It is genuinely hilarious to me that their storyline is framed as “can you BELIEVE that this wild child California girl is moving to BOSTON for this rich fuddy-duddy??”

Well, yes! I can, because it’s what she extremely openly wanted for a decade and the Burning Man shtick was humiliatingly obviously an attempt to throw a dropcloth over her very public failure to achieve her society goals. I even felt a little sorry for her because it was so obvious. But now she has what she’s always wanted, not some grand surprise to all.

Not weird in academia.

I’m about her age and know maybe a creepy amount about her. She’s from Willamette, IL. She went to Indians University for one year and pledged Delta Gamma. She transferred to Georgetown and dated Rep. Harold Ford Jr. while she was a student. After college she moved to NYC where she began her fame whoring (for lack of a better word) and tried to date various tech founders. She did date Jakob Lodwick for a while and they had an ill fated couples blog where she disclosed his mental health issues.

After years of trying and not getting far in NYC she moved to CA and fell in with the Burning Man/woo crowd, briefly turned into a Republican Housewife while she dated Jack McCain, then returned back to CA with her woo friends. She fell off the radar for a while and resurfaced when she met this Harvard guy, and now she is resurfacing and rebranding herself as “the first influencer”

Man, GOMI was so much fun in its early days (it has since become a cesspool). I always got JA confused with Cary Randolph - both midwestern-born, aspiring trophy wife wannabes who moved to NY to husband hunt and then tried on various other personas when that didn’t pan out.

Tell me what Gomi is?

Yeah. I know. Google. Not that invested.

She's kind of old for the trophy wife thing isn't she? What a waste of youth.
