Meat thermometer questions

Anonymous
I want to get a meat thermometer but don't want:

1. anything that involves an app or my phone
2. anything that involves having the oven door open even a smidge while the "reader" of it hangs outside the oven
3. one that involves me having to stick my head into the oven to read the tiny screen

Does this unicorn exist? If you stick the thermometer into the food and then a number pops onto the screen, can I pull the thermometer out and have enough time to read that temperature before it goes blank? Please help. I'm very slow and stupid with these things.

If you don’t mind spending a lot of money, this one is nice: https://combustion.inc/

It’s wireless and uses bluetooth. There is a display unit, so you don’t need an app if you don’t want one. I haven’t tried it by reddit users on the subforum I use seem happy with it other than the price.

I DEFINITELY don't want to spend a lot of money, and I don't want to have to use another electronic device to use it. I want something simple. As I said I'm stupid. I need something easy.

Does your oven come with a thermometer? I’m not sure what other reader you’d like if you don’t want to use your phone.

What you want doesn’t exist. You have to give up one of your criteria or buy a new oven. You can’t have cheap and not need to open the door.

My Wolf has a thermometer that you plug into the inside and it displays the temp on the panel. A cheap version of this doesn’t exist.

My oven barely comes with a heating element. It’s the cheapest thing a landlord can still call an oven.

Do you mean you want to be able to see the display through oven glass door?

No. I mean I don’t want the oven door to be open a smidge while the thermometer is stuck in the food and the “reader” is attached by a long wire hanging outside the oven.

Thermapen is the best.

Take the food out, take the temp, then put the food back in the oven.

What you are looking for is a unicorn. You have to somehow receive the reading. Unless you’re looking for a telepathic meat thermometer there will either be a wire or a receiver either on your phone or a separate device.

What you are looking for exists, but is expensive. PP had one suggestion, here is another:

I have also seen an instant-read thermometer that has a "display hold" button. You'd still have to open the oven and reach in to poke the meat, but then you could press the hold button, remove the probe, and read the display outside of the oven. If that sounds like you want, let me know and I'll see if I can find that again.

Otherwise, you are looking at a thin cable running from the probe to the display unit. That's what I use, and find that it really doesn't interfere with the oven door.

This is what I do. Cheap and reliable.

Op, you have so many "I don't want but I want" criteria.

I think what you want is just a normal thermometer. . Put it in the meat, see if ready, then if not, cook some more. There are plenty of cheap options.

But am I going to have to put my face right up near the hot pan to read the thermometer? Or will the temperature stay on the screen for a while after I take the thermometer out of the meat so I can read it?
