Capitol One Auto Finance will not send title or lien release

Anonymous
My daughter paid off her deceased father’s car loan in June. Capital One said they would send a title after it was paid for. Nothing showed up. After several weeks, we called back to say it never arrived. They were going to resend. After another month, and several more calls, they said it was lost in the mail, and they needed to resend. It also never arrived. After a lot more phone calls, they promised to send a lien release letter. You’ll never guess what happened. It was also “lost in the mail.”

I’ve been tweeting at them. I’ve been calling. Do I need to hire an attorney? We can’t register or insure this car without a title. She’s $14K in the hole on this car. What a nightmare.

File a CFPB complaint. You’ll get results.

Have you actually checked with the department of motor vehicles to see if their record still shows a lien?

If it does, you could ask them how to resolve that without the cooperation of the finance agency.
