VA Learning Grants now income specific?

Do I understand correctly that the new tranche of funding is marked only for families that are below the poverty threshold, whereas the previous funding was for all VA students? Is that how others are reading the guidelines? https://www.doe.virginia.gov/parents-students/for-parents/k-12-learning-acceleration-grants

Great. It was pretty gross when a bunch of UMC families hoarded a lot of the early grants.

That seems to be what it says. But it’s pretty reasonable, it’s for families with incomes up to 3x the poverty limit. So for a family of four, the income limit is $90k.

Thanks, OP here, hope to spread the word to families in need.

It has always been income contingent - $3000 for lower income families, $1500 for everyone else. It looks like they have re-opened registration for lower income families only.

No it helped out middle class families. Many of them make over $100 K but less than $200K and this area is a struggle for that price range because there are no subsidies or assistance for anyone in that income range. It doesn't make them rich. It makes them just getting by.

Agreed! It was awful to see friends who are in a dual income household that make more than $300k using up the grants while others making wayyy less were denied because funds were gone.
