| I have seen a few threads mentioning pop quizzes. Sounds like they are allowed in MCPS? Do your kids' teachers do them? |
| Ou high school does them. No retakes. |
| They're allowed, basically all assessments can be retaken anyway, no big deal. |
Our school is not allowing retakes. It depends on the school. |

Policy is vague:
https://ww2.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/policy/pdf/ikara.pdf Reassessment a) In each marking period, elementary and secondary students are provided with reassessment opportunities after reteaching. b) When tasks/assessments are reassessed, they may be reassessed partially, entirely, or in a different format, as determined by the teacher. c) The reassessment grade replaces the original grade (if higher than the grade previously earned). (1) Assessments or tasks that provide measures of student progress within an instructional unit may be reassessed. |
| I hope they are. My algebra teacher told us that she would frequently give short pop quizzes and that the questions could come from anything that had been covered in the course. It really motivated me to master the material as opposed to cramming for a test. |
It looks clear to me. It's up to the teacher. |
| I hope so too. But MCPS is a joke so who knows. |
I see "are provided with reassessment opportunities", so it depends on what the meaning of "is" is. |
|
Assessments or tasks that provide measures of student progress within an instructional unit may be reassessed."
This is pretty much every assessment. |

Pop, as in, not announced in advance?
I can't recall my son, now a freshman in college, or my daughter, now in middle school, even having a pop quizz in MCPS. I think teachers want their students to master the material and get good grades, so it's in their interest to prepare the kids for a planned test. |
