I'm new to the sport. Can someone explain pvs qualifying times for championship meets? Does a swimmer have to get a qualifying time at any meet or is it only at certain meets to qualify? |
I can't think of any winter swim club meet that wouldn't count. Summer swim league times don't count and most high school swimming meet times don't count (the championship meets for HS are usually sanctioned to also count as USA Swimming times) |
And the qualifying time has to be obtained after the last day of the same meet the year before. Essentially - you have a year to attain the time. |
Also keep in mind that the swimmer has to attain the QT of the age they will be at the meet. For my February kid, that means he always has to qualify “up” during the regular season. |
Interesting. Hadn't thought of the age issue. June birthday. |
Any meet that is sanctioned by USA swimming, including intrasquad meets |
June is a good swim birthday because it won't impact most meets as most championship meets are in the spring. The only time is matters is if your child swims long course. |
Can someone link the qualifying times for this year? |
They haven't been released yet, for some reason. The PVS site still has 2023 times up. |
The times usually stay the same year to year so you can look at last years times to have an idea. |
Another question on qualifying time - does it have to be achieved in the individual event or do recorded relay splits also count?
For example if DS achieved the 50 fly qualifying time in his leg of the 200 medley relay - does he also need to achieve it in the individual 50 fly event? |
Relay splits don’t count. |
Actually, it counts if you swim the first leg bc it’s like a standard off the blocks moment. So only back would count in the 200 medley |
Nope, no relay splits. I have a DC chasing a time right now that is good enough on the relay but not (yet) on the event. |
