Where's the best place to buy saffron powder?

Anonymous
I'm in an Indian grocery store and they don't have it.

Any recommendations?

You mean the saffron threads? That’s what you should be buying. Penzey’s will have it.

An Indian grocery store will also sell saffron threads. I’ve never heard of saffron powder.

Indian here. You buy threads, and crush them into a powder with a mortar and pestle before infusing them in a liquid for use.
If anyone is selling saffron powder, chances are it's not pure.

They will have saffron threads in tin boxes behind the counter.

You don’t even need to crush the threads. Just infuse them in hot liquid.

Agree, threads are the way to go. It is also very expensive so likely secured from shoplifters.

I get mine at the Indian store, or sometimes at Costco.

Ask the cashier or a worker. You won’t find it on the shelf with other spices in the Indian store.

Costco sometimes has them.

Persian friend will hook you up with the best Persian saffron threads or someone passing though Dubai. Sold by the ounce.

Thank you all.
I went to a small Turkish market and thry didn't have it.
Went to a bigger middle eastern market and they did have the threads behind the counter. They also introduced me to liquid saffron- whichbI ended up getting..

Didn't realize that saffron powder isn't a thing sold in stores. I've had powder at home- which my sister brought back from Dubai. She might have gotten tit ground up beforeshe gave it to me.
