hit by the ball

DD started softball and got hit on the leg from a pitch and so did 2 other girls on her team.

I was not expecting this, anything we can do? The pitchers really suck at this age. (Elementary)

(Which has caused a small dinner plate sized welt on her leg.)

Tell her to rub some dirt on it and hustle to first

Yeah if you report it to the Commissioner, she can arrange for a peer mediation session with DD and the offending pitcher. From there the pitcher will likely be assigned a mandatory course of cognitive behavioral therapy.

This is part of the game, OP. Be sure she knows how to react when the ball looks like it is going to hit her. She should turn away from the pitcher if she doesn’t have time to jump away. The coaches should teach them that at some point. But otherwise, she’s going to have some bruises playing sports.

Haha no…it is just part of the game. It gets better, but my DD is 14U and still gets hit by pitch occasionally. It’s a free base- wear it with pride- sometimes a fun bruise to show your friends at school.

Does your DD pitch at all? It isn’t easy.

What? Anything you can do? No. Wait till your teens are getting hit by 70 mph balls.

It stings (some more than others- depending where it hits you) but is not at all an injury risk at this age. You can count on it happening fairly regularly at the elementary age. Part of the game.

the best is when the welt has the stitches from the ball on it.

little kid pitchers are terrible, for the most part. this will happen.

In the short term ice and keep using the leg/muscle. My DD has had several bruises/welts from field hockey balls at close range. It almost feels like a right of passage.

They are soft balls, they are soft, she will be fine.

I guess you’ve never been hit by a fast pitch softball? OP is a little ridiculous because it’s elementary school, but high school Fastpitch softball is no joke. It’s not like it’s a Nerf ball. 🙄

Hey, but she got on base! Wear it with pride.

Mine is in 12u … I don’t think I have ever been to a game where a girl hasn’t been hit.

It's.... softball. Kids get hit with the ball. You can have her quit, I guess.
