COVID over and over again?

Anonymous
Are people getting COVID multiple times in a year? Is this our new normal (even for fully vaccinated, new variants seem to escape natural and vaccine-based immunity)? A bunch of my coworkers have it now; I do mask at work but take it off for lunch/snacks (yes I know counterintuitive but sometime we humans are).

My covid cautious DH has had it twice this year, after avoiding it for the first nearly 3 years. The last time was pretty mild and he tested negative in 6 days.

There are some people who are just more susceptible. In my completely anecdotal experience, there are people who get it over and over again and people who get it never or just once, no matter how “covid cautious” they are or not. I have a couple of friends who seem to get it several times a year. On the other hand, I’ve had it once since the beginning of the pandemic, and my DH has had it never, despite not isolating from me when I was sick (and we go everywhere and haven’t worn a mask in years). On the other hand, I get strep throat if I get within of a mile of someone with strep throat. The immune system is a strange thing.

My kid had it 3 times in 5 month span. However, the first time he was the most symptomatic with a fever. The second two times I only ever caught light positives for a day for runny noses.

Covid is odd. I have yet to test positive, but my spouse and one kid have had it several times. The other kid only once.

I worked on the Covid unit and didn't get Covid until last April. Then I got it again about 2 weeks ago

Hmm, isn’t that technically considered Long Covid?

This is OP I guess the variants of COVID now are getting better at evading immunity? The first set of vaccines seemed to do a good job, but now not so much, which is unfortunate. If more had masked/gotten vaccines in beginning we wouldn't be in this mess, COVID would not have been able to mutate as much. Future doesn't look good maybe COVID will evolve to the point where natural or vaccine immunity doesn't exist!

My 11 year old and I have never had it and we are not cautious at all (vaxxed tho)

Fully vaxxed and boosted and have had it 3 times. I have low immunoglobulin on blood work.

My college student had it for the 4th time. He vaxed once but really needs to vax each year with the flu shot.

He’s also had the flu twine in 2 years.

He was very sick each time.

No. What a weird question.

No, it’s not….When Covid is diagnosed that closely together Many docs would diagnose that as the same case. It’s very rare to get Covid three SEPARATE times in five months. That would mean that your body never posed any kind of immune response and therefore you should be getting lab work to make sure you don’t have any other underlying conditions / weakened immune system.

My family member tested positive twice within four months and at the hospital they said it was all the same case of long Covid.

We have not yet gotten it. One kid got it at university and then came home and we still didn't get it. We are four weeks out and the kid is back at school but still sick with a cough and feeling tired.

If you have had it multiple times, could you please say how many vax/boosters you have had (not sure what “fully vaxxed” means anymore) or if you are unvaxxed?
