Local vets in DMV that are not owned by corporation or private equity?

I am new to DC and started bringing my dog to one vet practice but feel distrustful of all the "recommended" services, and exorbitant fees, which are all new and have never been brought up with our previous independent vet. I have read that Mars and/or PE are buying up many vet practices, and I have a feeling this is where I have found myself.

I would like to move to a small, independent practice, but I'm not sure how to tell which practices locally are independently owned. I would greatly appreciate it if someone has a specific recommendation - where they know the vet.

I don’t think my vet, Adams Morgan Animal Hospital, is owned by a corporation or private equity… but I could be wrong as I have not asked

PS - I fully support veterinary medicine and what it costs, I just 1. want the money to go to the vets/vet techs, and 2. want to have faith that my provider is looking out for the best interest of my pet.

If you don’t mind driving, Willow Animal Hospital in Fauquier is stellar.

PE is buying up everything - including housing and independently owned HVAC and other mom and pop shops. It is very frustrating!

According to their website they are independent and family owned.

I have been to 2 excellent independent vets over the 15 years I had my dogs:
1)Fox Chapel Animal Hospital in Germantown, owned by Drs. Crisanto and Armie Escano
2) Hickory Ridge Animal Hospital in Columbia, owned by Dr. Kecia Parrish

If you are in their service area around Kensington/Silver Spring then I can also highly recommend a mobile veterinary service:
Two Sisters Vets, run by Dr. Katherine DeAnna and her sister Helen. They provided exemplary care for my dog in her last month of life and made a harrowing time easier with their compassion.

What value does private equity add? They destroyed my city's newspaper and are buying up housing in my city and renting it back to people, driving up the cost of a home for families. Docs and vets are now just wage slaves to PE and corporations.

If you are in east ChCh-Silver Spring-Shepherd Park, Rock Creek Home Vet is fantastic and totally independent.

It’s hard to tell now and a lot of vet clinics are not forthcoming about being corporatized. My clinic was independent but was purchased by VetCor. They said nothing, there was no announcement or name change and my only tip off was that my pets medication gave a Boston address as the clinic address. I google the address and it was VetCor’s headquarters. I didn’t appreciate that and when one of the practice’s vets went out on their own we followed them.
