What's the difference?
As far as I can tell both are rec soccer leagues (with a higher "classic" level) based in Montgomery County. Why do some teams/coaches/families choose one vs. the other? |
|
- Neighborhood and/or school friends
- Practice and game location is one reason. |
| My son is playing travel but when he was younger we did MSI because we live in Potomac and that’s where all the school based teams played. Same for our now college son who played rec and classic. I think you’ll find the biggest difference is geographic. Most people we knew in Rockville, Bethesda and Silver Spring played MSI. People we knew in Gaithersburg and Germantown chose SAM. However, MSI has the worst fields for rec and classic soccer. I think SAM uses the MD Soccerplex. That would be a huge plus for me. |

Just location.
Same level of play, but SAM has better fields. |

SAM has better fields and I think it's all paid coaches. They are also better about reporting standings. It's also a consistent location.
MSI fields could be anywhere in our area and it can get tiring going from a game in Gaithersburg at 8 p.m. one weekend to having another one the next week at 8 a.m. in Wheaton. MSI Classic has mostly volunteer coaches and a few paid ones. |
