Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
| Anyone know where you can get a 4 yr old tested for the best type of school environment and learning ability? |
|
I would think call ChildFind and/or the public school system. They test for any learning disablities or special needs. I am new to the area as well, but I was given those ideas by others.
Good luck!

If you are dealing with learning disability/delay issues, ChildFind will help. They will do an initial screening, then a more thorough screening (assuming they think there is an issue). My DD when through ChildFind at the age of 2 1/2 because she was not talking....now we can not get we to be quiet (at 8).
If you are trying to find out how your child's brain works, you can consult with a private psychologist. Many will do a full-on evaluation of the child, but that will cost a few thousand dollars. We were going to have the evaluation done if my daughter did not get into GT (everyone interacting with her *thought* she should be in GT, but she did not test into the Pool ). She did get into GT without appeal, so we did not pursue it. |

ChildFind is the way to go for public schools if you suspect learning difficulties. They do a screen and if they think it's warranted, then they do a comprehensive evaluation which is FREE. Then they set up an education plan to fit the needs of your child.
If you are asking because you suspect your child is gifted, I don't think public schools have gifted programs for children so young, but I could be wrong. If you are considering private schools, you may want to post on the private school board to find out good testing sites that are familiar with area private schools and what they offer. This young I think you really only need an IQ test for private school unless you suspect a learning disability. If you suspect learning difficulties and you want private school then you may want to post at the special needs board for ideas of where to get evaluated and what testing sites are familiar with the private schools for special needs. | Op, are you the same poster who posted on the Off Topic board about getting a reading assesment for your 4 year old? If so the above suggestions don't really apply. GL! |
