| I need to buy a new winter jacket for my DS16. I know he won't wear it much (bc hoodies) but want to have something that fits him if it gets really cold. Can anyone recommend a brand that isn't totally uncool and won't cost a small fortune? Thanks! |
| I buy the thin (but warm) “packable” down jackets at Costco. They are like $30 and easy to cram into a bag or locker. I am not spending money on something they might wear 3 times. If they were going to wear it a lot, I’d entertain a brand discussion. |
This. Plus I did buy him a used Lands End waterproof parka on Poshmark or Ebay for snow several years ago (he likes to go sledding when we actually have enough snow.) That has fit him for the last 3y and I anticipate a few more years left in it and I think I paid $40 for it. |
| Maybe North FACEE But no one wears jackets anymore so there no point of buying one. |
it's $100 a lot ? |
+1. I always buy my kids' jackets here because it rarely gets so cold they need those super thick ones. And often they get lost and I don't want to fret about a North Face or Marmot getting lost. |
| Thank you! I appreciate the suggestions! |
| Agree with cheap Costco one. My 16 year old wears a jacket maybe twice a winter. I do have another jacket for skiing, but he would never wear that to school or out with friends. He says it's too bulky and since they don't use lockers at school, it needs to be able to fit into his backpack. 95% of the time he just wears a hoodie and he walks to and from school every day. |
| Only jacket my 16 year old will wear is the Patagonia down sweater. Buy one for him every 2 years and then hand it down to his cousin. |
??? they do tho |
| Uniqlo has nice puffer coats. |
| FWIW, I was just in Costco today admiring the Tommy Hilfigger puffer coats. I think they were like $30. I would have bought one if I didn't already have a new winter coat. |
| Amazon Basics also sells light puffer jackets, similar to Uniqlo but cheaper. Held up pretty well for my tweens, who wear them daily in the winter. |
| good time to go to Uniqulo |
