| Is it dumb to go there in the winter? My teens have never been so worried that it won’t feel like the real experience but could also be fun. |
| “Real experience” - umm, the people who live there continue to run their actual society all year long … |
| Went in February. It was a whole lot more pleasant than dc in February and one day in Athens I wore shorts and a tshirt. |
| The real issue is that no visit to Greece is complete without visiting at least one island, and most of them are shut up pretty tight during the off season. Obviously people live on the island, but they're not set up to handle visitors then, and most of their charms would not be on display in cold weather. |
| The Brits/Russians won't be there, so the stuff that caters to them won't be open. But it will be cheaper, historical sites will be open and there will still be great restaurants. |
Me again. Lesvos had museums open. Many restaurants were closed but we found enough. |
Better in October... |
| It's even better. You get the winter food. You might also get cold wind and rain, but honestly I prefer that than dangerous heat and wildfires. |
I'm sure Crete is open and that Santorini is as charming in cold weather. |

I went to Greece in the late winter and it was just not very nice - rainy and cool.
The best part of Greece are the islands - save it for spring, summer or fall when it's warm and sunny. |
