Where do you stay in the Italian Dolomites?

I see this place mentioned often, so we’re considering a vacation there. What is your favorite property to stay at there?

Also for those who have also visited Sardinia, would you suggest that or the Dolomites for vacation?

We stayed at a small hotel in Cortina. I wouldn't describe it as "property", it was a low key B&B type place (which Cortina is full of).

We stayed in a lovely home in S Tyrole.

First time the Val Gardena. Second time, Merano, with a long drive to the Val Gardena.

Why is everyone discovering the Doloi?

I’m partial to San Lorenzo in Banale. Breathtaking!

We loved Sardinia and are planning a trip to the Dolomites. Different animals in my opinion.

We went to Sardinia in the Summer and basically went to the beach everyday and had delicious meals in small towns in the evenings. Our plan for the Dolomites is to hike in the daytime from hotel to hotel and then spa and delicious dinner at night.

Keep in mind: the beaches in Sardinia are like all of Italy: absolutely packed in June/July/August. We've been to beaches all over the world and these were the most crowded I've ever seen. Beautiful though. It's also eye of the sun hot in Summer. If I were to go again I'd go in May or late Sept

In the summer?

We rented a house in Cortina - absolutely lovely. We have also stayed in the foothills in Vittorio Veneto. There is a lovely castle that you can rent an apartment in and a fantastic stable to go riding in the hills.

How did you like Merano? Looking at a place to stay there for a summer trip.

Agree. It was so early 2000s when I spent a year there. It's nice, but Switzerland and Austria's Alps are amazing.

We went in the summer to go hiking and stayed at Gardena Grödnerhof. Had an excellent trip and will likely make a repeat visit in the next couple of years.

If you want to be in the Alpe di Siusi area: https://www.comohotels.com/italy/como-alpina-dolomites

If you want to be closer to a town: https://www.hotel-miramonti.com/en/

We didn't get to Cortina, but I'd love to go back there.

We've also been to Sardinia and agree with the PP about beaches. Beautiful but insanely crowded. I wouldn't go back there in the summer.

I’d sell an ovary to stay at Forestis. So pretty, but so not my tax bracket.
