Let's talk HBCU's. Is your DC interested and applying? Where?

I haven't seen any healthy, in depth threads about HBCU's, and I'd like to start one. My DS has a few HBCU's on his list, and I want to hear from other families doing the same. Where are you applying? Are there any families currently in HBCU's? Where, and how is the experience so far? Any HBCU's that you'd recommend putting on our list?

I attended HBCU for undergrad and large PWI for grad school. Would definitely recommend HBCU for undergrad experience. Best decision I’ve made! Recommend going to the school that is best known for what your child wants to study like NC A&T for engineering, FAMU for business or pharmacy, etc. They can also get best of both worlds by doing doing some of the joint programs between Spelman/Morehouse and Georgia Tech. I think they also partner with other schools too.

Thank you! I'm definitely exposing my son to more HBCU's, as we find targeted college fairs. There are so many more excellent colleges out there, that don't get the same exposure or dialogue here.

Look at the financials of the school in addition to the academics etc. (Of course, this applies to all schools not just HBCUs.) Some are struggling, and it can impact the educational experience in unexpected ways.

My DD has several friends at Howard and Delaware State. They seem to really enjoy the schools and they're close enough to come home when they want to.

Any feedback on Lincoln University? It peaked his interest at a college fair.
