When do you buy concert tickets - for the best deal

Is there a formula you use to buy tickets whereby you're not paying 5x what the original purchaser got them for on StubHub (as an example), but you still get great seats? I don't mind paying more than face value, but 5x's more stings. Is it better to wait until one week before for example? I went to a much anticipated concert last night, it was a surprise for DH. I purchased the tickets in May, I knew I was paying a lot more than face value but didn't know how much until the tickets were released to me two days ago. OUCH!

You buy them the day they are released from the vendor.

I buy the day of if I can. I wanted to see a show at the Kennedy Center and joined the membership to buy good tickets before the general public.

I have also used stubhub to purchase tickets if I want to go see something and there aren't tickets left (or seats I want) at the venue.

I have heard of people buying tickets at a venue from stubhub right before a show. My anxiety won't allow for this approach.

Same. So I guess I need to buy on day of release, as another PP said. You'd think buying tickets in May for a concert at the end of September would be way far in advance but I guess not. I've seen so many concerts, one would think I'd have it down by now

Day 1 at face value, or 10 minutes before the show at slightly less than face value.

I choose option 1.

I recently bought a deeply discounted ticket the day of the show. DH and I planned to go but didn’t get a babysitter, so we bought a last minute ticket from seat geek for DD.

Her seat was better than ours and her ticket was 50% less! She squeezed and sat with us, so her better seat was unfilled.

I think this will be my strategy from now on. We rarely go to shows and definitely aren’t seeing Beyoncé or Ms. Swift, but why pay more?

If I know it will sell out - immediately with presale access. If not, I take myself down to the box office if 9:30/Anthem/Atlantis/Lincoln/Merriweather to avoid the TicketMaster surcharge. Black Cat, DC9, Pie Shop all have relatively low charges so buy online. Filmore isn't too bad either.

I purchased tickets for a Jan 2024 show in August and just put it on my calendar. If I want to go, it does not matter how far in advance I buy them.
