Do you add your new driver to your insurance when they get their learner's, or when they get their license? Ugh, how much of an increase to expect?
I notified my carrier but Erie does not add them until they have their license. Cost increase is around $1200-$1500 per year.
When they are licensed.
Was that for a boy or girl? Sounds a bit low for a boy, and maybe I should check out Erie. |
We added our DD once she got her permit, it was about $400 more for six months. Once she was licensed and had a car at college in Jersey it was another $400 or so more. GEICO.
Progressive free to add. And they won’t pay in an accident if not added. New rule
State Farm--add when licensed.
With our oldest, we had GEICO. They added her to our policy, but no increase in rates until she got her license. Our youngest just got his learner's and called up Nationwide and they said they to call back when he gets his license. So it varies by insurance company. Call them up.
USAA add when getting learners permit, no rate change until full license.
Geico. They had us wait until they got their license. Both time with 2 teens.
Do it when they have their permit. I was in a minor car accident caused by a kid on his way to take his road test. He wasn't on the insurance and it was a big mess - the family ended up paying for all of the damage out of pocket because the insurance company wouldn't pay for it.
Same but we have USAA. I think our cost increase was about $1200 |
