| I have a neighbor/babysitter who is a sophomore in high school. I need to ask if she can babysit in a week, but I keep forgetting after school is out because I am busy with my own kid! Is it a no no to text during the school day? I assume her phone is off or she can ignore it, but what's the etiquette? |
| For parents of high schoolers, I'd also like to know how late you'd be comfortable letting your 9th or 10 grader babysit on a Sunday night or school night. |
| I would set a timer for yourself and send the text after school. Her phone should be off, but she may have forgotten. You don't want to get her in trouble. |
This. Have the text already typed out and just hit send when the timer goes off. |
| Seriously, you think it's ok to text a high school student while they are in school for babysitting. NO |
| Set an alarm. How do you manage other aspects of life? |
Of course you don't text her during the school day. Set a reminder for yourself. |
10pm. And no, don't text during school hours. Send it after 3pm or so. |
| I wonder how many of these posters text their own kids during the school day. |
+1 |
| Parent of a teen here. Do you know her school hours? Some school districts have the high school kids go later hours (like Loudoun county.) I think they start after 9 am. Most schools post the hours on their website. |

As a parent, I'd be annoyed if you texted her during the school day.
It's not hard to set a reminder |

I’ll be the voice of dissent and say I think it isn’t a big deal to text during the school day. My high schoolers only check their phones when they’re allowed to (lunch) and often text me then with logistical questions. I do think OP will have a better chance of getting a quick response after school, though!
I left my freshman DD babysit until 11 on weekends. She makes bank! |
| Never text a student during the day. I wouldn’t text after 9pm, but I’m old-fashioned. |
I don't unless there's a school shooting level situation going on. |
